Two new games from Psyguy Games =) |
|
|
I'm happy to announce two more
games from my self-titled publishing company
website. We can dream right?
Firstly, I
present Lode Runner '07.
<center>Lode Runner
'07
</center>
Lode Runner '07 represents another version of Lode Runner
that I have made. You'll still have to use your wits to evade the
same cunning enemies, but you won't find the new-age items such as
bombs or ropes in this game. Instead you'll have the tried-and-true
classic Lode Runner gameplay in all 20 levels, some of which span
more than one screen.
LR '07 also offers customizeable
joystick / gamepad / keyboard support, of course. Without a
joystick, Lode Runner doesn't quite seem the same! You can also use
the level editor to make your own levels to share with friends; I
myself will surely release more levels to complement the slightly
low quantity of 20 that come with the game itself.
Can you
get past the Terrible Tower and recover the gold from the evil
Bungeling Empire? The universe depends on you!

============================================================
I also finally have a windows release of my Tetratris
sequel, Tetratris True. I released a beta on the board a little
while ago, but it required users to install 3 different things, and
no one wants to do all of that. :)

Tetratris True returns all of the gameplay modes from the
original game; it also introduces two new gemeplay modes and a 2 -
player online competitive mode with a super-easy-to-use game finder.
You can also customize your controls to your exact preferences.
If you have a psyguygames.com account you can even keep
track of your best scores (along with your multiplayer record) on
the TT website.
The ability to select custom backgrounds, a
slightly refined combo system, volume control, and an independent
high score board for each of the 8 gameplay modes round out the
game.

I played LR'07 and you've already
heard these comments I guess. The controls seem a bit sticky to me,
but maybe that's just me. I have a hard time determining when I can
move when I'm at the top of a ladder, and more often than not I'm
killed right there on the spot. I guess I need to give it a little
more time. Another thing that's bothersome is that the fadeout when
dying is a bit slow for my tastes (at least on my machine). :)
I have yet to play the new version of
Tetraris. _________________ http://www.loomsoft.net/

| Cool! I'm gonna mess around with
Lode Runner this afternoon. Now if you'd brave a Lode Runner's Rescue remake you'd
be my hero. | |

On the other Lode Runner game I did, I made
all movement tile-based (so you couldn't stop in between tiles, but
rather one tap of the right arrow key, for instance, would move you
all the way to the next tile). I don't do that in this one; I think
that gives players more freedom and better maneuverability, but
occasionally it can makes things a little 'sticky' probably. For me,
the main time it causes a problem is when you're climbing a ladder
and you want to squeeze into a one-tile-high opening to the left or
right; you have to be lined up just at the opening to get in, of
course. I actually don't have too much trouble with that with my
gamepad, though; I can kinda spam the whole right-side of the stick
and finagle my way in there.
Oh, and as to the fadeout ...
I'm not really sure what's going on there. It seems pretty quick for
me ... 2 seconds or less probably... it could just be that you
consider that long? Or it might fade more slowly for some reason for
you, though I don't know why that would happen. I'll ask around and
see if anyone knows what might be happening.

Well at this rate I'll be doing my annual
lode runner game next year, so we'll see.

| I was trying to get Lode Runner
'07 to run and didn't succeed. It came up with a blank window and
another saying it was trying to detect a gamepad :(

Hm ...
that's disconcerting. I did make one small mistake -- I left my
controls.txt file in the download, which specifies my gamepad as the
default joystick -- but I double-checked the code, and that doesn't
actually cause it to try to setup a joystick. It sets it as default,
but the game has to detect a joystick first before trying to set one
up.
Do you have any gamepads / joysticks hooked up to the
computer you tried it on?
If you don't, can you try it with
one attached? If you do and it crashes when you run it, can you try
running it with no joysticks attached?
I've tried it on a
couple other computers (which run XP) and they seem to run alright
with or without a joystick plugged in, so I'm not quite sure off the
bat what might be going wrong here.
Do you think you could
get a screenshot of the gamepad error you see? Or does the error
message look exactly like this?:
| Quote: |
[] Could
not find previously-used joystick (Saitek PLC Cyborg Force
Rumble Pad). No other joysticks
found. |
That'd be the (mostly) harmless error that
results from me leaving the controls.txt file in the download. If
that's the error you mentioned, it might be something else (which is
scary).
When you say blank window, do you mean a blank
window that just sits there until you hit escape / quit it, or a
blank window that crashes pretty much right away? The only thing I
can think of is maybe it's a driver issue or something. Do other
OpenGL apps works fine for you? (I can't understand why others would
but mine wouldn't, but far stranger things have happened I'm sure.)
Edit - Oh, and if the blank
window sits there and doesn't crash on startup, try hitting return.
That would start a new game, and maybe then the display might start
working. On the off-chance that it did then begin working, it'd
probably be a gamma fade error of some sort. Seems unlikely, but
certainly worth a shot. _________________ http://www.psyguygames.com/

| Yeah, it's the Saitek error you
mentioned. The other window is perfectly black and just sits there.
I've tried hitting a bunch of keys (enter included) and it doesn't
respond. I'll see if I can find a gamepad to hook to it
tonight. | |

I have an updated version with
improved controls (should have done that before release) and a
handful of other minor fixes. There's also a new set of 5 levels you
could download
here if you wished. Oh, and you can now choose between easy and
normal difficulty; if you found it a bit too challenging before, you
should find it more welcoming now. _________________ http://www.psyguygames.com/
